This is “Heading For The Weekend“, a new original (watercolor) figurative painting, size 15 1/2″ x 11 1/2″.
‘Debi Watson’ No More
I recently wrote in my newsletter that I feel ‘Debi’ doesn’t sound like a serious artist. I asked a gallery owner and he agreed.
After all, Andrew Wyeth wasn’t called Andy.
And initials are even better. (think N.C. Wyeth)
After getting a lot of feedback from my readers, I decided to go with D. Watson. It sounds serious, maybe mysterious and possibly male, or who the heck knows? It turns out many artists use their initials to sign their original paintings, so I’ll be in good company. I’ll be changing over gradually.
Oils Vs Watercolor Con’t
And I rapidly found out that I don’t have the convenience of cropping oil canvases like I do with my watercolor paintings. That means I have to do more planning, maybe a watercolor sketch to test my diminsions before I start the oil……..

Debi? or is that D now? :0)!
I’ve been running this thru my mind and could not figure out for myself if being called Debi in the art world is seen as a problem because I’ve always known you as Debi and it has never been a issue with me, but, if you think it is a deterent I’m not sure if D Watson works because D is heard as Dee which also implies a female name and youthful/young so if you are thinking of changing it I would say maybe use your initials like H.C. Dodd does.
I hope that helps I know there are a lot of sexist people out there but if they write you off because of your name that is truly there loss I just wish people would judge the art and only the art but people love to purchase more then just the art they like to have a story to go along with the artist, sometimes I think, no maybe I should say, I know a lot of crappy art is passed off in this world because of what the artist did or does unrelated to the art, now a days you can not mention Van Gogh with out someone saying “yeah he is the one that cut off his ear, right” Not that Van Gogh is crappy just using him to illustrate the point of stories get peoples interest not just the art.
Well enough of that:0)!
Take Care
I am in love with this painting! Your skill at the creating the figure is top notch. Bravo!
